Here are some native recipes. There are also alot of food at the local store, such as, rice, meats, spaghetti, and much more.



Boiled Moose Nose
1 Moose nose with hair on it
4 tbsp Salt
Water Enough water to cover moose nose

1. Boil about 3 hours or until hair is removed easily.
2. Cool nose in a 13x9 pan
3. Pluck hair from nose
4. Cut nose into chunks
5. Eat and enjoy with salt
Similar to unsalted pigs feet.

Quick Fry Bread (3 different types)
1 ½ cups Flour
1 ½ tsp Baking Soda
½ tsp Salt
¼ cup Sugar
1 ½ cup Milk

Mix- fry in pan about ¼ inch of oil to cover bottom of pan.

Fry Bread #2
2 ½ cup Warm water
1 tbsp Yeast
½ cup Sugar
1 ½ tsp Salt
¼ cup Oil
7 cup Flour

Dissolve yeast in water, until frothy. Mix in other ingredients until stiff dough is formed. Let rise 1-2 times (each time punch down). Put about 4 cups oil into frying pan. Make into golf size balls. Flatten out with fingers. Fry in oil until golden brown.

Meat and Gravy
2 pounds Cubed moose or caribou
¼ cup Flour
2 tsp Salt
½ tsp Pepper
½ Onion

Brown meats in about 4 tbsp oil add onion, salt, and pepper. When meat is browned add flour into pan mix well until flour is brown add about 1 ½ cup-2 cup of water until flour is the consistence of gravy. Serve with rice or any other starch.

Salmon Chowder
Note: Salmon could be eaten fresh when they are first running (Silver color or late in season when salmon is red in color)
1 Fillet of Salmon cut into 1 inch chunks
1 Onion
6-8 Potatoes (peeled and 1 inched cubed)
3 tbsp Salt
½ tsp Pepper
6-8 cups Water

Boil water with salt and pepper. Add cubed salmon. Bring to a boil, add cubed potatoes and onion. Boil about 20 minutes or until potatoes are fork tender.

Agutuk (Eskimo Ice cream
½ cup Crisco
1 cup Sugar
Berries Any type of edibable Berry

Mix well with about 1/8 cup of water until fluffy. Add about 6-8 cups of berries.

Baked Salmon
Note: Salmon could be eaten fresh when they are first running (Silver color or late in season when salmon is red in color)
1 Fillet salmon
¼ Bacon ½ inched sliced
½ Onion cubed
Salt and pepper

Put fillet of salmon in 13x9 pan sprinkle salt and pepper on fish. Add sliced bacon and cubed onion.

Sockeye Salmon Fish Head Soup
Note: Salmon could be eaten fresh when they are first running (Silver color or late in season when salmon is red in color)
6-8 Fish heads
2 tbsp Salt
6-8 cups Water

Bring water to boil with salt. Take out gills from fish head. Add to water boil about 20 minutes. (Every part of the fish head is eatable except the gills)

Red Sockeye Salmon Dried

Fall time when salmon is red, fillet wash and hang fish on drying rack. Dry about 3 weeks in cold weather. Once salmon is dried, dip pieces into seal oil, Wesson oil or butter. Traditional done when there are no more blue flies and when the temperature is near or below freezing. Salmon is basically freeze dried for the curing process.
