Last Update
2/22/2005

This column will be updated weekly unless we are busy doing other things such as Commercial fishing in the summer, enjoying our sunny days, or just out taking in all the good country and pleasures that God put here for us to experience. We will make no apologies for our grammar, punctuation and content that we will be entering here. Any storys, news, gossip, or facts are to be taken with a grain of salt for we are not all seeing and all knowing enough to check that everything here is/or will be the honest to God truth.

May 2nd 2006.In Kokhanok,Alaska. It is spring again! Must be time for an update,(since the last one was 56 weeks ago).

Well a lot has happened in that period of time, to much to tell about here.As far as winter weather goes it actually was'nt bad.The weather was damned chilly though. To chilly to really do much outdoors. There has been below freezing temps since the middle of December 2005.Most of our time was occupied by cutting, chopping, and burning wood in our stoves to stay warm and keep the water pipes from freezing.Add 4 feet+ of snow to the mix just to make it more difficult and the winter was actually a real old time ,just as we remember it when we were kids, winter for once.

In between cold snaps we had the chance to do some hunting. The caribou showed up on the Newhalen side of the Lake after an absence of three years. Many Subsistence hunters filled there freezers with this bounty from God and Nature. The Moose season was basically a bust. Not enough snow, then to much snow to do any hunting.AHH! but this spring the bird hunting was excellent(Avian Flu be damned). There is very little open water for the ducks and geese to land in so catching was a cinch. After a hard days work sneaking on your belly through swamps, water, mud, and snow. The soup, potroast, baked ,or however they were cooked, tasted even better then they would have if it was just given to us.Well thats it for now.I hear some cackling outdoors going overhead.Gonna grab my shotgun ,oil it up,go sit in a swamp, get wet and have a good time. See you on the next update.
